Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will we see alligators and snakes?

Probably not. Although alligators and snakes live in the area, we typically don't see them. We will be in an area that is very shallow. There is no food or shelter for the alligators so they typically avoid the area.

Should we bring sunscreen and bug spray?

You can but it's usually not needed. The area has lots of tree foliage and there is lots of shade to stand in. The area is filled with lizards, birds and lots of carnivorous plants. Bugs are usually not a problem.

Should we bring water shoes?

Absolutely! The riverbed is uneven and slippery. It's not uncommon to see sharp rocks, fishhooks and other sharp objects in the water. Sunrise Paddles and Leisurely paddles typically do not require water shoes. Most of the time a kayak launch is used to enter and exit the water.

Will we find megalodon teeth?

It's not a guaranteed but we find about 10 each year. It's always a possibility!

Where is the meeting location?

We have a few locations in Summerville and Charleston that we search frequently. The temperature and conditions will determine which location we search. Once you book an excursion, you will receive and automated email confirmation that includes all of the details of your excursion including the meeting date, time and location.

What's included?

When you book an excursion, you are asked for you approximate height and weight so that the appropriate sized kayak and PFD can be matched. Sunset and Moonlight Paddles include night lights. Shark's Tooth Excursions included tools for finding and keeping fossils. Every tour is approximately two hours long. A dry box is included to lock up your keys and cell phone
